Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery is located at 1580 Eastshore Road, Suite K (below the Local Color Gallery and the new Terripan Creek Cafe), just off Hwy One in Bodega Bay. Stop in and see us. We have a new historical exhibit each month, and we look forward to your visit. (schedule above)
A trip up to the Sonoma Coast can be a fine excursion for art lovers. Our gallery neighbors include the Ren Brown Collection , focusing on modern Japanese prints, the Local Color Gallery, featuring works of local contemporary artists, and the Christopher Queen Gallery also featuring historic California Art. It is a short drive up the coast and slightly inland along the Russian River to Duncans Mills.
Until you make your artistic trek, please visit us often at our online gallery, www.BBHGallery.com.
Our gallery focuses on 19th and 20th century plein air impressionist Early California art, generally between 1880 and 1950. Featured are beautiful and dramatic seascapes, mountain landscapes, desertscapes, and paintings of California's beloved National Parks, especially of Yosemite. There is another special emphasis on farm scenes and farm animals such as sheep and chickens.
These Early California and California impressionist paintings represent our heritage of times gone by - times without freeways, subdivisions, windfarms. These vistas are still to be seen in the present landscapes of Marin County and Sonoma County.
Our gallery, both online and in Bodega Bay, emphasizes Early California art, and the well-listed California artists whose work is rapidly appreciating in popularity and value, including 19th Century barbizon, tonalist, and realist painters, the California plein air impressionists, the Desert Painters, the Society of Six, the California Style Watercolor Movement, and early modernist painting. Other investment-quality older American art and Western art is also included. In addition, the on-line gallery includes the works of local artists of merit, reflecting the revitalization of the plein air impressionist approach.
We are located on the shores of Bodega Bay, on the Northern California coast (site of the classic Alfred Hitchcock film, "The Birds"). The raven on our logo is a nod to Alfred Hitchcock, now part of the Bodega Bay lore.
