Nellie Moody was a wealthy woman who was an active artist in Napa County California in the late 19th century. This painting was done in 1877, and exhibits the importance of grape growing in the region at that time.
Our research into Nellie was not to fruitful, but we did find information of her wealthy entrepreneurial father, Volney Delos Moody (1829–1901). He was a 49'er who made his fortune in Oakland and Berkeley. Nellie's married name was Blood and there is record of her living in Napa. If you have any knowledge of a Mrs. Nellie Blood living in Napa the late 19th century and have reason to believe she was a painter, please contact Dan at the gallery. We will include information on this page, and we'd love to have a photo of her. More can be learned about Volney Delos Moody .
