Esther Charlotte Asplund Meyer

Watercolorist Esther Charlotte Asplund Meyer was born in the late 19th century and lived to see the dawn of the 21st. As a daring young woman, Esther left her humble Oregon coast roots near Coos Bay for the thrill of Washington, D.C. She remained in the capitol through the end of World War I and then moved to San Francisco. She discovered the San Francisco Art Institute where she studied watercolor and etching. She became one of the first women members of the California Society of Etchers. She loved travel and with sketchbook at the ready, journeyed up and down the coast and into the foothills of the gold country. Her work has been in jury shows in New York, Chicago, Oakland and in the de Young and Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Her work was featured in exhibition at Gumps in San Francisco.
