Mabel Grandin Carruthers moved to the Los Angeles area soon after her marriage to John Carruthers in 1919. In 1925, she made Pasadena her home. In the local art scene, Mabel was known for her palette of crisp pastel colors. She would accompany Marion Kavanaugh Wachtel on painting excursions. Her landscapes, sometimes large, would often have sycamore trees.
