Joshua Meador: Palette Knife Impressionism informed by Modern Art Winter-Spring, 2016	Joshua Meador's Palette Knife in Hand from Walt Disney's 4 Artists Paint 1 Tree, a short film shown on Disney's TV show in 1958 featuring Josh and three other Disney artists demonstrating and explaining their painting technique.
Joshua Meador considered himself an impressionist, but that impressionism could be informed by modern art. "I think I'm inclined toward impressionism ... I want to paint and interpret the way I feel and not be influenced by any one school. ... I like to select a subject according to the emotional quality and enjoy painting it emotionally rather than breaking it down to rule, form or dynamic symmetry." His son Philip Meador described his dad's Disney career saying,
"Josh put the fairy dust in Tinkerbell and the "Z" in Zorro.

Today, Joshua Meador is revered as one of the pioneering fathers of early animation. He was Walt Disney Studios Director of Animation Effects for nearly 30 years!

After graduating the Art Institute in Chicago, Josh began at Disney Studios as lead animator for 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Two years later, he was one of the directors of Fantasia. He made major contribtions to all the Disney classics of the late 1930's through the 1950's, including being part of the effects team which won an Oscar for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

MGM thought highly of Josh's skills and convinced Walt Disney to loan Josh to them for their Sci Fi classic film Forbidden Planet.

While living in Mendocino in 1963, Josh was called down to Disney Studios to assist filming and mixing the animation and live action for Mary Poppins. He was on the blank sync stage directing Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in full costume to hit their marks to match animation already "in the can." Josh then mixed the scene, penquin by penquin, frame by frame.
